Lazada Bans Imports on Smartphones & Tablets Over PHP10k!

If you have checked the global store of POCO and Xiaomi in Lazada Philippines, you’ll notice that the only products available are accessories. There’s news of Lazada restricting grey market units of smartphones and tablets, following the policy from Philippine Customs, where electronics coming outside from the Philippines are not allowed, along with products that are valued at more than Php 10,000.

To fact-check the circulating issue, we talked to the Bureau of Customs and were told that:

“This is just an isolated case for Lazada. You may import (phones/tablets) and procure the necessary requirements prior (to) importation. Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-enabled electronic devices/gadgets such as laptops and cell phones are NTC-regulated equipment. Meaning, these are subject to NTC rules and regulations whether for personal use or for commercial purposes. Thus, an Import Permit must be secured from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) before actually importing these products.“

To determine if the POCO Global store was the only one affected, we checked other global stores. It appears that the global stores of Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Black Shark were also affected by this new scheme. Their shops were no longer stocked with phones.

We are unsure if this move is temporary or permanent yet. This is a developing story~
